Sara Vieira Marques is an interdisciplinary artist whose work unfolds a variety of mediums. Develops a practice of expanded nature that articulates scenic installation, performance and research.

In the past years has been collaborating as scenic designer, performer and researcher in several projects between Performing and Visual Arts.

Her practice explores the material relations of time-space to generate environments and situations that allow other forms of relationship between human and non-human bodies. Such practice is driven by an urge for more inclusive and ecologically sustainable futures, often approached speculatively and critically.

The key elements of her practice are the investigation of relational architectures and the performative aspects of listening, seeing, imagining and documenting.

She has been using mostly time based mediums, weather performance, film or spatial/sound installation to address Radical Futurisms and Material Ecologies of Collapse, through a non-human-centred approach.

#Acoustics,  #Matter-Material,   #Dark Ecology,#Beyond-Human and #Deep Listening are keywords to her practice.

Her work has been presented in several institutional frameworks, such as Arquipélago - Centro de Artes Contemporâneas (Ribeira Grande -Azores); Alkantara (Lisbon, PT); TBA -Teatro do Bairro Alto (Lisbon, PT); CAMPO- Fogo Lento (Gaia, PT); vaga - espaço de arte e conhecimento (Ponta Delgada, Azores); Walk&Talk (Azores); CAMPUS Paulo Cunha e Silva (Porto, PT); Mala Voadora (Porto, PT); TNSJ - Teatro Nacional S.João (Porto, PT); TNDMII - Teatro Nacional D.Maria II (Lisbon, PT); INAE - Instituto Nacional de Artes Escénicas (Montevideo, UY); Parque Cultural Valparaíso (Valparaíso, CH); NAVE (Santiago, CH); JUNTA - Dance Festival (Teresina, BR); Campinas Dance Biennial (Campinas, BR); among others.

Her projects include: AURORA (Espaço Alkantara, 2020) - a performance that explores the choreographic relationships between architecture, sound and geology; OSSU (Pegada, 2020) - a performative ethnographic diary;  HEADLESSMEN (FCSH/Doc, 2021) - a documentary film on material and sound ecologies; and RESONATING ISLANDS_A SONOROUS ARCHIPELAGO (Arquipélago Contemporary Arts Center, 2023) - an artistic research project, premiered as a listening session based on seismic data (Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation 2022/2023 award).

Sara was part of the expanded curatorial project Curadura (2021 - TBA, Lisbon); was granted "Estrume" (2020 - Fogo Lento); was artist invited by the Culturgest Foundation to represent Portugal at the "Summer Lab Zagreb" (2020 - ACT-Art, Climate, Transition); and was commissioned by the Suttle-Pláka Grant (2023 - ÁGORA, Porto) for touring UNDOING LISTENING in Chile and Uruguay, with the high support of Instituto Camões (UY-PT) and Arte Institute (USA-PT).

Currently, Sara is working on [𝖋𝖎𝖓𝖎𝖘ˈ𝖙ɛ𝖗𝖗𝖆] Practices and Theories for an End of the World researching strategies to address an ‘end of the world’ in order to imagine and enunciate other becomings, deepening her relation with sound, resonant architectures and aural placemaking.
